Congratulations to Paula Gibbs on winning the final of this Ladies Matchplay competition, a competition for players with a maximum handicap of 30. The final was contested between Paula and Ruth Horn on 11th February, with Paula giving Ruth 13 shots. While it wasn’t a particularly warm day there was little breeze to impact either player.
Ruth got off to a good start winning the first hole but then lost her way a little and went 3 down over the next few holes. After some to-ing and fro-ing Ruth found her form and by the 16th hole was 2up. Ruth played her tee shot onto the green, almost guaranteeing a 3 for the hole. Paula responded well and played her tee shot to within 6’ of the hole and putted for a 2, taking the match back to 1 up for Ruth.
The 17th proved tricky for both players, with Paula managing to win the hole, leaving the match all square with 1 to play. Both players played the hole as well as they could, but the advantage was with Paula who was able to get onto the green for 2. Ruth was on for 3 and 2 putted for 5, while Paula was also able to 2 putt for a 4 to win the hole and the match.
Congratulations to both players on getting to the final and for the competitive but good spirit in which the game was played.
