In the week prior to our away match against Carlyon Bay, we had one player withdraw and another suffer an injury and so we were scurrying around trying to find replacements. With the Vets section having commitments to the North Devon League, the Yellow Ball and the Emerton-Court this week, finding replacements was never going to be easy.
Fortunately, Rick Jones stepped forward promptly to fill one of the vacant positions. Thanks Rick. Recognising our difficulties Carlyon Bay offered to lend us a player. However, due to some organisational issues at our end, this wasn’t achievable. The second spot was therefore occupied by Mr A.N. Other until the last possible moment when, because of some excellent recruitment work by Cliff Brown, Jim Gray was welcomed to the team.
Carlyon Bay were wonderful hosts and made us very welcome on arrival. Seven complete pairs took to the course in light winds and dull overhead conditions. The weather improved as the day went on, and the matches were completed in lovely sunshine. RND lost, 4 matches to 3, on the day with several games being decided on the 18th green. Wins for Jeremy and Tom, Chris and Cliff and Michael and Dale were very welcome.
Several of our players had never played at Carlyon Bay before, so this was a very good away result with the home fixture still to take place in July. The day concluded with an excellent meal and great camaraderie in Carlyon Bay’s amazing Clubhouse.
