RND Vets v RND Juniors

Every year the Vets look forward to receiving a sound thrashing from the Club’s youngsters and this year proved to be no exception.

Leading the way was Match Captain Bob McDermott, ably assisted by Rick Jones to an ignominious 4 and 3 defeat. All square after 11, then the juniors of Caelin Colwill and Emily Goddard turned it on to win the next 4 holes and the match. Next up was a tried and trusted pairing of Lawrence Johnson and Steve Pryor, who succumbed 5 and 3, having never been ahead at any stage. Then a banker pairing of our secretary Phil Hall and Michael Saunders were seen off 4 and 2, again never leading at all. Group 4 of Rob Zukowski and Andy Ratcliffe eventually succumbed to a 2-hole defeat despite being 3 ahead at one stage. And finally, Ron Juniper and Martin Roche saved the whitewash by halving their match. But special mention should go to Noah Crane, our assistant professional, who is still a Junior, for fighting back in that match from 4 down after 13 (despite his personal score being a gross 1 over par at that point) to finish his round at level par gross. Next year it will be different. I promise.
