Tiverton v RND Vets - 2nd September 2025

Tiverton v RND Vets - 2nd September 2025

Two team members were ill and had to withdraw on the eve of the match, however we were delighted that Michael Saunders and Peter Fisher were able to join us at short notice and fill the vacancies.   Michael Scambler was also welcomed to the team, filling a long-standing vacancy from the home leg and we were very grateful to the three of them for their support.  Therefore, we took a strong, skilful and experienced team to Tiverton.

The weather forecast was grim with heavy rain forecast for the whole day. True to the forecast we travelled down the A361 in the rain but as we walked onto the first tee the clouds parted, the rain stopped and we saw a little sunshine. We only endured a few short, light showers during the actual round but thunder rumbled constantly around us on the closing six holes, just to add to the tension and atmosphere.

The course held up very well and the greens were very true, receptive and putted nicely, but a little slower than we are used to at RND perhaps.

Tiverton sent a strong team into the field and every match progressed to a tight finish that could have gone either way.  The final results didn’t go our way unfortunately and we went down 4 and a half to 1 and a half with Tiverton retaining the 361 Salver Trophy. This won’t come as a surprise to long standing members, as RND have only won the Salver once since its inception in 2010 but there is always next year.

Our team put in an outstanding away performance on this occasion but Tiverton were better on the day and pipped us.

As always Tiverton afforded us great hospitality and provided a very good meal.
